Italian cyclist Letizia Paternoster, winner of the EOC 2017 Summer Piotr Nurowski Best European Young Athlete Prize, continues to add to the successes of her young sport career, winning the bronze medal this week in the “Omnium” category at the Track Cycling European Championship in Glasgow (SCO).
It is the second medal at the European level for the 19-year-old athlete, following the silver she won in the team pursuit at the 2017 UEC European Track Championships in Berlin.
Paternoster, one of the most talented junior athletes in the Italian sports movement, has also won many competitions at the junior level, setting a world record in the Women Junior Team Pursuit, and achieving a total of nine World and five European titles.
She was named the Best European Young Athlete on the occasion of the last EOC General Assembly in Zagreb (CRO). The annual Piotr Nurowski prize is given to young, up-and-coming athletes that over the past year have showcased not only outstanding sporting achievements, but also exceptional conduct on and off the field of play.
