GREECE – THOUSANDS OF VESSELS FOR THE DOVE OF PEACE

GRE newsAthens, 17th April 2014 – a huge white dove, the universal and timeless symbol of peace, friendship, cooperation and solidarity between peoples, made by 45 000 school children from across the country, was unveiled at the Panathenaic Stadium in Greece's capital city.

The event was organised by the Olympic Academy together with the Ministry of Education, under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, as part of the 4th Pan-Hellenic Programme "Olympic Education Day".

NOC President Spyros Capralos, IOC Member in Greece Lambis Nikolaou, International Olympic Academy President Isidore Kouvelos, the Deputy Minister for Sport, the Mayor of Athens and many personalities from the worlds of sport and of culture, helped as the young students put together the dove of peace, placing thousands of paper boats made by them, so assembling such a gigantic "puzzle" that it has earned itself a place in the Guinness Book of Records, as certified by a special commission flown to Athens for the purpose.
