The Belarusian capital is once again ready to host another major event as a number of the best athletes from Europe and the USA arrive in Minsk this week to compete at the historic head-to-head duel “The Match” on 9-10 September.

The Match is a welcome addition to the portfolio of events that Minsk continues to host following the successful 2^nd European Games, which were held from 21-30 June 2019.

Dinamo Stadium, which hosted the Dynamic New Athletics (DNA) competitions during the European Games, will again open its doors for top-class athletics. Following the success of the DNA during the Games, which attracted big crowds, it is expected that there will again be a big turnout to enjoy another innovative track and field event.

Marking a return to the famous intercontinental duels of the 1960s and 70s, this time the best of Europe’s athletes will take on the USA’s leading contenders in the last biggest athletics competition before the IAAF World Championships, which will take place in Doha in October. Over 300 athletes will compete in more than 30 events. Each event will feature four athletes from both continents.

“Team competition always brings out the best in athletes, and fans love to see stars in peak condition fighting to lift the cup at the end of the day,” said President of European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen. “I am sure The Match will give the 2019 season an extra dimension of interest and it could well turn into a regular feature on the international calendar.”

Continuing its visa-free entry policy, which was in operation during the European Games, Belarus is again welcoming people from all of the world and encouraging them to enjoy everything that the country has to offer.

Minsk also organised the Belarus International badminton series from 29 August to 1 September and will host a half marathon this Sunday.
