EOC Secretary General Carlo Mornati hosted a delegation from the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Iceland on 30 April at the Italian NOC (CONI) headquarters in Rome.
During their visit as part of an Erasmus+ project, the Icelandic delegation held meetings with both the EOC and CONI, gaining valuable insights into Italy’s sporting system and recent Olympic success.
A key moment of the visit was a meeting with representatives from CONI’s Olympic Preparation area, where discussions focused on the factors behind Italy’s strong performances at recent Olympic Games and the structures in place to support elite athletes.
NOC of Iceland Secretary General Andri Stefansson and EOC Executive Committee member Líney Rut Halldórsdóttir attended the visit, along with EOC EU Office Director Carlotta Giussani.
Mr Mornati, who also serves as Secretary General of CONI, expressed his appreciation for the visit.
“Maintaining strong relationships with all of our NOCs is a key priority for the EOC, and we were delighted to welcome the delegation from the NOC of Iceland to Rome,” he said.
“It was a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge and share experiences, particularly around Olympic preparation and performance, and we hope these discussions will support the continued development of sport in Iceland. The NOC has played a pivotal role in accelerating the development of sport in Iceland, and we look forward to seeing a strong Icelandic team at all of our events next year – the 4th European Games Istanbul 2027, the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival in Brașov, the Summer EYOF in Lignano Sabbiadoro, and the Games of the Small States of Europe in Monaco.”
