EOC President Capralos attends Hungarian Olympic Committee 130th anniversary celebration

The Hungarian NOC celebrated its 130th anniversary at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest on Monday, with EOC President Spyros Capralos joining hundreds of Olympic medallists and athletes from across the country for the milestone event.

Hungarian dignitaries in attendance included Dr. Tamás Sulyok, President of the Republic of Hungary, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Minister of Defence, and Hungarian Olympic Committee Honorary President Pál Schmitt, while IOC Vice President Juan Antonio Samaranch and IOC Honorary President Thomas Bach joined them for the celebrations.

Founded in December 1895 as the sixth NOC in the world, the Hungarian NOC marked the occasion with an evening that featured a stage show honouring Hungarian Olympic heroes, followed by a 12-minute video featuring 130 living Olympic champions, each recalling the moment of their victory in one sentence. Film screenings throughout the program paid tribute to Hungarian Olympic heroes, showcasing their unforgettable victories and moments of triumph.

During his visit to Budapest, President Capralos also met with Mayor Gergely Karácsony, and Hungarian NOC President Zsolt Gyulay to discuss preparations for the 55th EOC General Assembly, which the city will host from 12-13 June 2026.
