EOC President Capralos discusses Brașov 2027 Winter EYOF with Romanian Prime Minister Bolojan

EOC President Spyros Capralos was today hosted by the Prime Minister of Romania Ilie Bolojan at Victoria Palace in Bucharest, discussing preparations for the 2027 Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Brașov, Romania.

The meeting was also attended by EOC Executive Committee member and President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Romania Mihai Covaliu, the NOC of Romania Secretary General George Boroi, IOC Member in Romania Octavian Morariu, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister of Romania Tánczos Barna.

Romania has made a significant contribution to the Olympic Movement in Europe, having successfully organised the 53rd EOC General Assembly in Bucharest in 2024.

Brașov also hosted the 2013 Winter EYOF, which brought together young athletes from 45 countries across 8 sports. Now, more than a decade later, the city will once again host this multi-sport event for Europe’s young winter sport athletes aged 14–18 in February 2027.

To mark the 50th anniversary of artistic gymnast Nadia Comăneci’s stunning performances at the Olympic Games Montreal 1976, where she won three gold, one silver and one bronze medal, 2026 has been declared “Nadia Comăneci Year” in Romania. This will feature sporting, educational, cultural and international events throughout the year.

EOC President Capralos highlighted Romania’s impressive contributions to the Olympic Movement.

“Nadia Comăneci is an example and a source of inspiration for young people who choose sports. The performances of Romanian athletes contribute significantly to Romania’s image internationally. We are delighted that your country will once again host the European Youth Olympic Festival,” President Capralos said.

Prime Minister Bolojan expressed his support for the Brașov 2027 Winter EYOF.

“The government will support the organisation of these events, within the limits of current economic conditions. We appreciate the constant support of the European Olympic Committees for the development of Romanian sport. Hosting the European Youth Olympic Festival represents an opportunity for our country,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Barna added: “The European Youth Olympic Festival demonstrates that Romania is recognised both for its sporting results and for its ability to host competitions at high standards.”
