The European Olympic Committees (EOC) Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi welcomed a delegation from the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF) to the EOC Head Office headquarters in Rome on 9 February 2023.

Pagnozzi met with EWF President Antonio Conflitti and EWF Secretary General Dr Milan Mihajlović and discussed around possible collaborations between the sport and the EOC at future events.

One of the topics of conversation was how new formats of weightlifting could potentially lead to its inclusion at future European Games, European Youth Olympic Festivals and Games of the Small States of Europe.

Pagnozzi said: “The EOC is always delighted to welcome federations to Rome to discuss the developments of their sports and how we can help them with progress and development. We had productive and interesting discussions with the European Weightlifting Federation during their time here.

“A key focus of the conversations was the exploration of different formats of weightlifting for a potential inclusion of the sport at the EOC sport events. We also discussed the upcoming European Championships in Armenia in April and how their preparations for that event were going.”
