Categories: EOC

EOC Vice President and IOC Member Daina Gudzineviciute donated her Olympic gold medal from Olympic Games Sydney 2000 to “StrongTogether”, a non-governmental organisation helping Ukrainian people affected by the war.

“Sport and Olympism symbolise peace and world unity. What Ukraine and its people is going through right now is beyond comprehension and very painful,” said Gudzinevičiūtė, who is also President of the National Olympic Committee of Lithuania (LNOC).

“We wholeheartedly support the people of Ukraine, its athletes and the entire Olympic community. We are contributing to a joint effort in whatever way we can. My Olympic medal is a symbolic expression of gratitude for people’s kindness in facing this terrible war.”

The organisation “StrongTogether” helps people fleeing the war in Ukraine, including representatives of the sport and Olympic community. The Olympic medal was presented as a token of appreciation to the company that has made the largest financial contribution to support the war-affected people of Ukraine.

Daina Gudzineviciute won the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games in the trap shooting event. She was the first female Olympic champion in the history of independent Lithuania.
