Less than 60 days left to the 18th Mediterranean Games, which will take place from June 22 to the July 1. Apart from being a big multi-sport event featuring 33 disciplines, it is the connecting link in the Mediterranean based on solidarity and harmony.
The 10 days of competition will see the participation of 4,000 athletes from 26 different countries, 1,000 judges and representatives of the International Federations and the International Committee of the Games, 1,000 journalists from all over the world, 3,500 volunteers to support the organisation, as well as more than 150,000 spectators.
Just as the other Games, the Tarragona Games are more than a simple sports event, they are also moments of social inclusion and commitment. Last week, April 19, the Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018 Cultural Program was presented at the Municipal Theatre. Under the title “Somnis de Pedra i Aigua”, the initiative aims at enhancing sport and the Olympic spirit through a series of cultural activities embedded by the unifying and harmonious Mediterranean Sea.
Amongst over a hundred activities scheduled, there will be a special concert by the Barcelona Symphony together with the Catalonia National Orchestra (OBC)on the 10th of June, whose goal is to unify the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics and Tarragona 2018, through the symphony of the brilliant orchestra conductor Pau Casals.
From April to October, in addition to sport, history, music, dance and gastronomy will take over Tarragona and the other 15 host cities to disclose the real essence of the Mediterranean culture. Stay tuned for the 18th Mediterranean Games!
