EU – SPORT AS A TOOL FOR INTEGRATION AND SOCIAL INCLUSION OF REFUGEES
3 May 2018
Inclusiveness and integration have always been the driving force of Europe, so which other mean is better than sport to shape these values? In this regard, the European Commission has recently launched a compelling initiative that harnesses the power of sport for the successful integration of refugees.
Considering the growing number of refugees aiming to settle in the European Union, there is an increasing need for effective integration and social inclusion initiatives. Across the European Union, at Member States’ level or within European Union programmes, a wide range of initiatives have been taken and innovative projects are already being implemented. “Sport as a tool for integration and social inclusion of refugees” is indeed a pilot project aiming at giving a contribution to the efforts of the EU countries and supporting local sport projects focused on the integration of refugees.
These projects – amongst which approximately 25 would be selected – should involve local sport organisations and must focus resources on activities where both women and men participate and involve refugees in mixed sport activities, especially at young age (up to 30 years old).
The total budget is 1.4M EUR and proposals must be submitted using the online application form by the 7th of June 2018 (12:00pm Brussels time).
