TURKEY – NATIONAL ATHLETES TOGETHER WITH KIDS FOR THE OLYMPIC DAY

“Move, learn, discover” is the slogan of the Olympic day celebrated at Gaziantep (Turkey) on Thursday 3 May thanks to the joint organisation of the IOC and the Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC).
Around 500 sports fans of all ages gathered together with the national athletes to play their favourite sports: basketball, archery, darts, cycling, bowling, climbing.
As a sign of inclusion and solidarity, 350 Syrian refugee kids also attended the events.
Among many, Nevriye Yılmaz (Basketball), İlke Özyüksel (Pentathlon), Fatih Cengiz (Wrestling), Eren Akkurt (Karate), Sibel Güngör (Taekwondo), Yücel Sezer and Halit Can Baskaya (Weightlifting) shared their great enthusiasm playing with their fans.
At the end of the events, all the participants were assessed by their sport idols and were awarded with a certificate of attendance signed by IOC President Thomas Bach and the TOC President Uğur Erdener.
TOC Board member Seyit Bilal Porsun stated: “It was a wonderful day! We are proud to have organised one of the most involving event in our country. The NOC of Turkey keeps on furthering its mission of conveying Olympic values to young people, placing sport as a fundamental part of their daily life”.
