It has been a highly successful year for Bulgarian snowboarding star Malena Zamfirova, who turned 16 in June.
She won gold in the parallel slalom team event and silver in both the parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom at the FIS Junior World Championships in Zakopane, Poland in March.
That followed on from a first podium finish on the FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup with a silver in the women’s parallel giant slalom in Krynica, Poland.
“Malena’s dedication to snowboarding is evident in her consistent performances and her drive to improve,” Zamfirova’s candidacy for the Piotr Nurowski Prize reads.
“As she continues to gain experience and refine her skills, she is poised to become a prominent figure in the sport, inspiring young athletes, especially women, to pursue their dreams in alpine snowboarding.”
Europe’s National Olympic Committees will vote for the winner of the 10th Winter Piotr Nurowski Prize on 3 October, the first day of the 45th EOC Seminar and Olympic Solidarity Forum in Malta. The Award Ceremony will take place later that evening during the Gala Dinner.
