EOC Secretary General Carlo Mornati confirmed as CONI Secretary General

EOC Secretary General Carlo Mornati has been confirmed as Secretary General of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).

Mr Mornati has served as the Secretary General of the Italian NOC since 2018, and was confirmed by the National Elective Council at the Olympic Preparation Center Giulio Onesti in Rome, Italy.

For the next four-year cycle, Mr Mornati will work with the new President of the Italian NOC. The newly elected Luciano Buonfiglio, the President of the Italian Canoeing and Kayaking Federation (FICK), will succeed Giovanni Malagò, who stepped down after 12 years in the role but will remain as President of the Milano Cortina 2026 Organising Committee and an IOC Member in Italy.

Mr Mornati is an Olympic silver medallist, winning a Rowing silver in the men’s coxless fours at Sydney 2000. He also competed at the Olympic Games Atlanta 1996, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.

He was elected as EOC Secretary General during the 54th EOC General Assembly in Frankfurt, Germany in February 2025, succeeding his compatriot Raffaele Pagnozzi, who retired after 19 years in the position.

EOC President Capralos said:

“Carlo Mornati has been an invaluable addition to the EOC team since his election as Secretary General at the 54th EOC General Assembly in Frankfurt.

Throughout his career he has demonstrated exemplary leadership skills, and his re-election as Secretary General of the Italian NOC is richly deserved.

Congratulations Carlo, and also congratulations to Luciano Buonfiglio on his election as the new President of the CONI. The EOC is excited to work with him as he aims to build on President Malagò’s outstanding legacy for Italian sport.”
