The European Olympic Committees (EOC) will hold its 55th General Assembly in Budapest, Hungary, on 12 and 13 June 2026, convening the National Olympic Committees of Europe for one of the principal gatherings of the European Olympic calendar.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry will attend the General Assembly, where she will deliver her first address to the European Olympic family since her election as President of the International Olympic Committee in 2025.
The Assembly will review the extensive work undertaken across the EOC over the past 12 months — from support provided to National Olympic Committees throughout the continent to preparations for a significant programme of forthcoming events, including the 4th European Games Istanbul 2027.
Following a meeting of the EOC Executive Committee on 11 June, IOC President Kirsty Coventry and EOC President Spyros Capralos will open the General Assembly with addresses the following morning.
A dedicated session on Istanbul 2027 will feature prominently in the first day’s proceedings, as the European Games enter their final phase of preparation with almost one year to go. EOC Coordination Commission Chair Mihai Covaliu and the Istanbul 2027 Organising Committee will provide updates.
Delegates will also receive updates on the two European Youth Olympic Festivals (EYOF) scheduled for 2027 — the Winter EYOF in Brașov, Romania, and the Summer EYOF in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy — followed by the presentation of the EOC Order of Merit.
On the evening of 12 June, the winner of the Piotr Nurowski Prize for the Best Young European Athlete will be announced at a Gala Dinner. The finalists for the 14th Summer Edition of the Prize have already been confirmed, with the winner to be elected by the member National Olympic Committees earlier that day, ahead of the ceremony.
The second day will include a video address from the European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, an update from the EOC-EU Office in Brussels, and reports from the EOC Commissions. The EOC Olympic Laurels Awards will also be presented.
Speaking ahead of the Assembly, EOC President Spyros Capralos expressed his gratitude to the Hungarian Olympic Committee for hosting this year’s event:
“We are honoured to bring our National Olympic Committees together in Budapest, and we are grateful to the Hungarian Olympic Committee for their warm welcome.
“Following the success of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, we gather at a moment of real momentum for European sport. With the 4th European Games in Istanbul on the horizon and two European Youth Olympic Festivals to anticipate in 2027, European sport is entering an exciting chapter.
“These meetings are where our shared vision takes shape, and I look forward to engaging, open, and forward-thinking discussions with the entire European Olympic family.”
